Pa Chapter 8 VOF History

Our first Red Knight Ride “Fallen Hero Ride” in 2012 was the actual origin of our charity beginnings, that was linked with the Rock Bottom Brewery Tapping of the Fire Chief Ale event. PA 8 proceeds went directly to National Fallen Firefighter Foundation for $3,725.00.

We were very close friends with WV VI (that was also the origin of our SOG’s) and went the same year to their Benefit, in partnership with the local TV Station, the event was called “Ride for a Reason” and it benefitted Victims of Fire & Coats for Kids.

We ran multiple Benefits Dinners and Rides from then until 2016 and Treasurer Bommer had concerns about having too great a balance in the bank and possibly getting audited and began looking into 501(c)(3) options to separate Chapter and Charity funds to make things more clearly defined if we were to be audited.

The May 2017 Red Knight Ride was the first time we called it (prior to starting a committee) Victims of Fire & Red Knight Charities after the concern of fund auditing.

June of 2019 was the official Incorporation (chartered April 1997) of the Chapter and 501(c)(3) exemption.

After the IRS Charity recognition, we added to the SOG’s the Victims of Fire section in early 2020 and have continuously supported the area residents that have experienced a loss of property.
